Causes and remedies for motion sickness

Diseases of tourists:

1) gastrointestinal diseases

It usually takes 3 days to get better. Occasionally, a doctor supports this process with a body syringe. The cause: The body is sensitive to the violent climate change and the massive loss of fluid - sometimes exacerbated by the breakdown of alcohol, which also deprives fluid. The stomach and especially the intestine are obviously the weakest links in the body and react with vomiting and diarrhea. Most patients think it must be food poisoning, but we know one thing for sure: it is not !! Because stomach and intestinal diseases are also and just as common in the 5 star hotels for guests who never eat out, and where the quality is strictly and safely checked with the help of temperature measurement methods. If food is spoiled, it delivers different values in the refrigerator on calibrated thermometers than non-spoiled food and is immediately destroyed.

2) Ear infections from bathing in the swimming pool or in the sea.

Before a painful night, please see ENT doctor Dr. Kochakorn ; A few ear drops and then it usually gets better very quickly.

3) Jellyfish : You are never quite in front of you, but they occur more often in the rainy season and on full and new moon. It is best to protect yourself largely with long swimwear. Especially with children, you should have vinegar on the beach in a small spray area. If you get touched by the tentacles, you spray (do not rub, this will burst the little poison balls !!) the vinegar, which neutralizes the poison. The Morning Glory groundcover grows on the stand, you grate it, then carefully place and fix the leaves, this also helps.

3) Insect bites:

Every time you go outdoors, you should use mosquito spray to protect yourself from the diurnal tiger mosquitoes , whose bites can cause dengue fever. In fact, dengue in Thailand is not just a theoretical size, but a common disease. We know at least five people in our circle of friends who got caught. Everyone has survived, but the pain and fever are extremely uncomfortable. There is no prevention.

Sand fleas are also widespread, which feel comfortable in the wet sand of the streets (not on the salty sea beach). Your bite is itchy and can become infected if you scratch too much. Sometimes the pustules appear in other places, so that the pests can obviously also wander through the bloodstream.

Those who sit on rattan furniture sometimes have red pustules on the inside of the calves or the inside of the thighs. The reason is small beetles that multiply in them especially at the beginning of the rainy season and then bite. Avoid sitting with bare thighs on rattan furniture in the period from March to May!

In our opinion, the most effective remedy for all types of pests is Johnson's OFF agent, which also has a very good itching effect if you have already been bitten. You can buy this for about 160 THB in most pharmacies. We don't know what's in there, so allergy sufferers are discouraged.

The T.Man lotion, which you can also get in the pharmacy, is very good for itching and anti-bacterial. The advantage of this lotion is that it combats the cause of the itching and the itching does not migrate, which often happens with other means.

4) Sea urchins , there are on rocky beaches (the lime spike breaks off and cannot be removed from the skin, leading to a painful infection that should be treated by a doctor). A proven home remedy is to coat the skin with papaya pulp. The enzyme papain contained therein softens the skin and lets the spines "float" out of the skin after approx. 12 hours. It is recommended to only go into the sea with bathing shoes)

5) Bites by monkeys (during the temple tour) and dogs must always be treated with tetanus and rabies injections. Getting vaccinated against rabies beforehand is an exaggeration.

6) Mite infestation during elephant trekking can lead to serious skin infections if you ride unprotected directly on the elephant's skin.

A reason for relief:
In Khao Lak there have been for a few years
NO MALARIA,
NO CHOLERA,
NO TYPE,
NO PARATYPHUS
Preventive vaccinations against these tropical diseases are therefore superfluous for Khao Lak.

Our motto:
No paradise without pests!

These notes are empirical values from recent years without any claim to objective validity. You can get competent information from your doctor or from the tropical institutes in your home country.

Thai massage

The many massage studios, spas and beach massages in Khao Lak are considered to be serious and competent. Predominantly older massage women with several years of experience offer their skills in different types of massage. The most popular are the traditional Thai massage adapted to tourists and the oil massage. Furthermore, foot massage, shoulder-neck massage, aloe vera massage and an aroma massage are offered. In massage studios and on the beach they cost 300 to 600 baht an hour, in the luxuriously furnished spas of the big hotels, significantly more. A Thai massage of 1 hour duration is given in the massage studios for 300 THB on the beach street and on the main street.

Every masseuse can now show certificates from the massage school at Wat Pho in Bangkok or other recognized massage schools. The quality of the massages changes with the skill and experience of the masseuses, who massage weak, medium and strong as desired.

As a newcomer you should start with weak, because the strength of the masseuses should not be underestimated. On the beaches of Khao Lak, over 100 masseuses and some masseuses are waiting for customers in simple, romantic bamboo huts. Fresh sheets and pillowcases for every massage are now a matter of course. It is of course a wonderful experience to enjoy a relaxing massage while the waves are lapping.

fruit

Everyone knows that fruit is healthy. Everyone knows that one should be careful with fruit in the tropics. But what does "be careful" mean? Don't eat fruit? Certainly not! Always boil or dip briefly in hot water? Who can do that, outside on the beach or in the market? So what? Eat only peelable fruit? Bananas, mangoes, pineapples, pomelos ...?
Basically, the fruit sold in Khao Lak is not particularly dangerous. We have never had any problems with an individually packaged, well-wiped apple or washed under running water. Even the grapes sold in Khao Lak, which we never wash under running water, have never made you feel unwell. We always ate the Falang fruit or Chomphu (rose apple) with the firm skins, which is so popular with Thais, without peeling. We also regard the cut fruit offered at the fruit stands or on the beach under cellophane as harmless.

dogs

The presence of dogs on the beach is usually not a problem because they are usually peaceful. By feeding dogs on the beach. these could consider certain stretches of beach as their territory and could also be aggressive in groups. Please do not feed dogs on the beach, they will then look for other areas, mostly in the residential areas, where they can find enough food.

In the brochure "Health Tips for Travelers in Southern Thailand", 3/99, the Bangkok Phuket Hospital warns:
"No tourist should ever pet a dog because the fur contains larvae (hydatid cysts) that nest in the liver of humans and have to be surgically removed.
Wherever dogs run around, they spread hookworms, which can also affect humans through the soles of the feet. There is drug treatment for these. "

Of course, all of this also applies to Khao Lak. And who believes that dogs with a collar are free of diseases and harmless to humans?

According to the local veterinarian, all free-range dogs have at least seven serious diseases, several of which can cause serious harm to humans.
