| 4 kms behind Takua Pa zweigt of the H401 (KM 145.5) to the
right from direction Surat Thani (156 kms). The street drives down at first
on the edge of the wide Takua of Pa valley and afterwards swings itself in
elegant curves into the hill country. Beyond the passport in the KM 107 a
marvelous scenery of overgrown lime rocks applies. With the KM 109.1 a street
(2 kms) leads to the left to 646 km2 big rain forest-national park.
Many Traveller do this stop between the coasts, because only with the Khao Sok they can spend the night so reasonably in pleasant, even romantic company houses, the evergreen monsoon wood directly before the door. The park is overrun by no means - all together only few thousand tourists per year visit him; entry 200 Baht for 3 days, car 20 Baht. |

The physical lover expect thick jungle, small, rather mediocre waterfalls, nice footpaths along brooks and a nature trail. |
||||
| In the woods of the park many rare mammals, also live under
it elephants, some tigers, leopard, Asian black bear, Gaur and Serow which
can become only with Dschungeltreks of several days angepirscht. Warane,
gibbons, wild boars, flight croissants, squirrels, vipers and rhinoceros
birds are to be seen lighter with some luck.

| Only few years ago some copies of the Rafflesia (Rafflesia
kerrii meijer, on Thai Buah Poot) were not found at all far by the entrance,
a parasitären plant which grows on the roots of a liana kind.

| The plate-shaped, fifth-hasty, brick-red and knows piebald
blossom heard with 80 cms of diameter to the biggest single blossoms on the
earth. She blossoms after statements of the locals at the beginning of the
rainy season in June / July, according to other springs from September to
December. Some say even that it is to be seen all-year.
Some say even that it is to be seen all-year. Who has interest in this plant, can ask in the company houses, because the blossom also seems at several places beyond the park. |

The nice palm Kerridoxia Elegans (also Langkow palm) is an other attraction for botanists. Who would like the river hinabtreiben with pleasure in an inflated autotube, has in addition after the rainy season the best possibility.

| One can explore the jungle in this park along the main ways
easily on own initiative. Who it is confident not only, can sign on an expert
leader from one of the company houses. During the humid time from May to
December the park is worthwhile only for people to whom many leeches (on
Thai Tahk) do not matter or which one of the house cures helps, as for example
tobacco juice or tiger balm.
Against the ticks (on Thai Hep) which strike from January to April Warmblütler it already helps to put the trouser legs in the socks and to use a Repellent. At the nights it can get cold sensitively. From June to August the stinking, but tasty Durian mature in the surroundings.

| Kapong Tour (106,6 km without side trips): (black dots)
|
From Khao Lak you drive on the H4 to the south (15.5 km) up to
the big fork to the left towards Thung Maphrao. Already after 1.1 km (16.6 km) turn off to the left on a country road to Ban Na Noi. After 3 km you see in the village on the right the workshop in which the bamboo furniture is made which is used in many resorts. After 1.6 km (21.2 km) you turn to the left at the T-junction. On this narrow, asphalted country road 4003 you drive through unspoilt rural areas. Almost without traffic you pass by Ban Chang Non (27.3 km) and over a small mountain pass (33 km) up to the H4090 (34.9 km) where you turn left again. After another 6 km (40.9 km) a new asphalt road with pot holes turns to the right at the signboard "Lumru Waterfall 5 km". After 4.5 km (45.4 km) the sign " Lumru Waterfall 800 m " directs you to the right into a narrow little concrete road. From the parking lot you walk 2 minutes along the reservoir to the nice, but on no account spectacular Lamru Waterfall. After 2.6 km (48 km) you hit again on a cross-road. To the right the concrete road ends after 3 km at Hin Lad Waterfall which consists of rapids and water basins, where the village boys enjoy themselves swimming with inner tubes (15 Baht p. P.) |
|||
|
On a narrow street (H4175) you drive 5 km farther up to the market town
Kapong (53 km) where on Sunday morning a big market takes place
(on the left in a side road). Past Wat Kapong with a Chedi you continue to the northern end of town (54.5 km) where you see the signs "Park Weep Waterfall 3 km" and "Hotsprings 8 km" . You turn to the good road to the north (drawn yellow on my map). If you make this excursion, you pass on the right after 11.4 km the fork to the Naresuan Temple (Wat Narai Nikayaram) where some Old-Indian statues are placed in a new hall. (1.8 km farther you reach the highway H401 at the marker 130,8. It leads to Surat Thani to the right and to Takua Pa to the left.) The hot springs are not signposted further. From the yellow street you turn right after 4.7 km to Ban Bang Pang and 400 m farther at the school to the right again on to a new wide road which ends after 4.4 km. Exactly there are the Hot Springs, 500 ms to the right. They bubble out on the right of the riverbed, very hot, and join after 100 ms with the cold river water. There you might take a footbath in the mixing water. |
|||
|
If you continue straight at the end of Kapong (54.5 km), you meet
(faster than on the map!) already after 1.1 km (55.6 km) again the
H4090 and turn to the right (signboards "Takua Pa 32 km", "Ranong
163 km"). After 9.2 km (64.8 km) you turn to the left on to the H4032 (signboards "Takua Pa 16 km", "Khao Lak 49 km"). Already after 1.6 km in the village Ban Tamtua you see on the right the nice village temple Wat Kuan Niyom, absolutely worth a stop, particularly as you also have a nice view into the wide valley. 5.2 km farther (71.6 km) the new connecting road to Pakweep turns off.
The Chinese temple (300 m farther on the left) is quite interesting.
We recommend to trace back to the Pakweep Road (71.6 km). Indeed,
this is a new road, however, shows many treacherous pot holes. Still it is
a regional tidbit running through beautiful landscape. |
